Abdominoplasty
There are 4 typical changes that lead to the search for the abdominoplasty surgical procedure: excess skin, stretch marks, sagging muscles and excess localized fat.
Abdominoplasty is a plastic surgery that involves correcting abdominal deformities, usually resulting from pregnancy. It is one of the most sought-after surgeries worldwide, as it corrects the so-called “apron” that many women have and which causes so many self-esteem problems.
Although it is not considered a weight loss treatment, patients who undergo this surgery end up losing a lot of weight, as the amount of excess tissue and skin removed can be enormous. Once the excess skin and fat have been removed and stretch marks have been corrected, patients experience an almost immediate and significant remodeling of their abdomen; in most cases, this procedure is also associated with liposuction of the abdomen and/or flanks (side regions).
This surgical procedure also corrects one of the problems that affects most women worldwide: abdominal diastasis; a condition that occurs when there is an excessive separation of the rectus abdominis muscles. Consequently, the belly becomes more saggy, because the abdominal contents, including fat, are more prominent. Although this is a more common problem in a postpartum woman’s body, excess weight and obesity also contribute to its formation.
During the first consultation, the Plastic Surgeon presents all the details of the abdominoplasty using images, assesses and discusses with the patient all the stages of the process, as well as each person’s expectations.
At all stages, including the first consultation, the body is photographed using the most advanced imaging equipment. For abdominoplasty, the Vectra XT 3D from Canfield is used, which allows a 360º view to be taken in order to document the entire clinical process.
Abdominoplasty gives the patient immediate satisfaction, as it restores a harmonious body without any sagging skin on the abdomen, and the only solutions for this are surgery, regardless of how much physical exercise is done.

Procedure
Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure and, as such, is performed in a licensed surgical unit authorized by the health regulatory authority. The duration of the surgery varies, but for a simple abdominoplasty it lasts 2.5 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. It is a procedure that requires a 2-day hospital stay and a period of 2 to 3 weeks off work. The final results are obtained between 1 and 3 months depending on the body’s response. The following restrictions should be considered for abdominoplasty: 4 weeks of physical activity, 2 weeks of driving and flying, 2 to 3 weeks of sexual activity and 1 month of sun exposure.
