The nipple is retracted inwards and may be unilateral or bilateral, thus favoring the penetration of germs into the breast, causing recurrent infections. Although for women the problem is related to possible breastfeeding, this can be a sign of some tumoral breast disease and should be carefully studied and treated.
Inverted nipple correction can be done starting at age 15 or after patients have completed breast growth, causing some discomfort or difficulty in breastfeeding and facilitating breast blocking with infection. It’s an intervention performed only with local anesthesia and without cutting, this is a procedure that normally does not interfere with the nipple sensitivity, but in some cases, there is a temporary loss of sensation and, very rarely, a total loss of sensation.
