Labioplasty is a surgical procedure that consists in the reduction of the small lips, removing excessive tissue. Small lip hypertrophy can be congenital or acquired (aging, pregnancy) and is accompanied by discomfort in several daily activities of the woman (playing sports, wearing tight or bathing clothes) and especially in her sexual life.
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia or under local anesthesia with sedation on an outpatient basis. It is a simple procedure and with a very low complication rate. Postoperative recovery is fast and without major discomfort, but rest is recommended in the early days due to expected edema, as well as ice application and enhanced intimate hygiene. The suture points used are absorbable so it will not be necessary to remove them. Return to work is expected after 5 days (if sedentary work routine) and resuming sexual and physical activity at 6 weeks.
